The Pit, Dos Ojos and Bat Cave Cenotes

Cenote The Pit

Don't be fooled by it's lackluster name. The pit is a legendary dive that many divers have on their bucket list. It is part of the system Sac Actun, the longest underwater cave system in the world at 364 kms. With a depth of 391 ft/119 m, it is the deepest cenote in the Quintana Roo. The Pit offers limitless visibility, surrounded by white limestone walls, and illuminated by a 100-foot pillar of light during sunny days. It is awe-inspiring and magnificent. You will feel like you are flying in an underground cathedral.

We will perform a straight descent to 30 m/100 ft. Your will experience optical illusions while diving through a halocline at a depth of 13 to 15 meters. A halocline is where fresh and salt water meet, creating a water density gradient. Bellow 30m/100ft is a dense hydrogen sulfide layer with trees branches emerging from the ‘cloud’. The sunlight does not penetrate the hydrogen sulfide layer, creating an illusion of flying above the white clouds.

We perform a multilevel profile ascend and you will enjoy the beautifully decorated ceiling and the spectacular light show created by the sun above us.

This is a once in a life time dive and you can be one of the lucky few that experienced it.
